Dementia Friends is a global public awareness program that is helping our communities become safer, more respectful and inclusive of the growing number of people living with Alzheimer’s or a related disorder, and the people who care about them. High school students can take part in a training to become Dementia Friends Champions, which gives them the skills and the materials they need to lead one hour Dementia Friends information sessions in their community. This volunteer opportunity has a flexible time commitment, builds public speaking and facilitation skills and can make a big difference. Beth Soltzberg, LICSW, will lead a two-hour Champion training on Sunday, December 8 from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Robbins Library conference room. The commitment is to: • Take part in the free two-hour training. • Commit to leading at least one information session. Students can lead the information session(s) alone, or pair up. • Volunteers are asked to commit to leading at least one session, but they are welcome to lead as many information sessions as they want. Students could lead their session for friends and family, at a congregation, for their club or Scout troop, etc. Students who want to take on a bigger project can organize an information session in a public location such as the library. • Students can receive community service credit for their participation.
